Lost at sea for two years – dolphin equipment returned

Equipment used to monitor dolphins in the Moray Firth by the University’s Cromarty Lighthouse Field Station has been returned to the team after a two year and 300 mile journey.

Researchers in Cromarty were stunned when they received a message from Jan Roar Sørensen asking for information about a strange red pod that had washed up on the island of Utsira, off the west coast of Norway.

The C-POD, used to monitor dolphin and porpoise behaviour around the Moray Firth, had been missing for two years.

Dr Isla Graham, researchers at the Cromarty Lighthouse Field Station tells the story.
